14 Best Local SEO Agencies and Companies in 2026

We compared 14 local SEO agencies on Google Business Profile work, multi-location capability and review strategy. Who fits single locations and who fits scale.

Short answer: local SEO agencies split by how many locations they are built for. Single-location specialists focus on Google Business Profile optimisation, reviews and local citations, and they are the right and cheaper answer for one storefront. Multi-location agencies handle location page architecture, bulk profile management and franchise governance, which is genuinely different work. An agency strong at one is usually inefficient at the other, so the location count decides your shortlist before any other factor does.

Local SEO is where small budgets meet high stakes. For a service business or multi-location brand, ranking in the Google Map Pack is often the difference between a full schedule and a quiet phone. But in 2026 it takes more than a Google Business Profile and a pile of citations - it takes review velocity, hyper-local content, technical fundamentals, and increasingly, showing up when people ask AI assistants for a provider nearby.

If you already know you want to hire rather than compare agencies, see our local SEO services.

The agencies worth hiring report on calls, form fills, and booked appointments - not impressions. They earn rankings through legitimate Google Business Profile optimization, local link building, and reviews, not bulk citation spam or guarantees no ethical agency can make. And they're starting to optimize for AI-driven local discovery, where "best [service] near me" queries increasingly get answered by an AI.

To help you find the best local SEO service, we reviewed top agencies serving single-location businesses, franchises, and multi-location brands, weighing Map Pack expertise, review and citation strategy, local content, and proof. These are the 14 we'd shortlist. No one paid for placement. Verify pricing and case studies for your market and category before signing.

How we evaluated these local SEO companies

Six criteria, weighted toward the work that actually moves local visibility rather than the work that fills a monthly report.

Google Business Profile capability

Category strategy, attribute completeness, posts, product and service listings, and handling suspensions and reinstatements when they happen.

Review strategy

Whether the agency builds a genuine review generation process and a response workflow, or reports review count and leaves the rest to you.

Citation and data consistency

Auditing and correcting business information across directories and data aggregators, including the duplicates most businesses do not know exist.

Multi-location handling

Location page architecture, bulk profile management and governance across franchises or branches. Genuinely different work from single-location optimisation.

Local outcome reporting

Calls, direction requests, profile actions and store visits, rather than sessions and rankings that do not reflect map pack performance.

Local link and mention building

Local relevance rather than raw authority. A link from a regional publication outperforms a higher-authority national one for local intent.

Local SEO and AI visibility for multi-location and service brands

LocationGlobal (remote-first)
Founded2022
Team size10–25

Full disclosure - this is us, and we are placing ourselves fourth rather than first because local search already rewards enough self-promotion without us adding to it. We are not a pins-and-citations-only local shop, and that is the point: local discovery now runs through Google Business Profiles, map packs, and increasingly through AI assistants that recommend a specific provider by name. We combine the local fundamentals - profiles, reviews, local content, citations - with the entity and brand-mention work that makes AI tools confident enough to name you.

We work with multi-location and service businesses that want more than a few extra map-pack rankings; they want to be the default answer in their area across both Google and AI search. Across 70+ long-term partnerships, our edge is connecting on-the-ground local signals with off-site authority so the results hold up as search shifts toward AI-generated recommendations. The honest caveat: we are built for multi-location and service brands running a real local programme, not a single storefront that only needs a Google Business Profile cleanup - a smaller local specialist further down this list is the better fit for that.

We used to think local SEO was just our Google profile. They showed us how to become the name AI assistants actually suggest when someone nearby is looking for what we do.

Single location vs multi-location: two different agencies

Location count is the most useful filter in this category and it is the one buyers apply last.

Single-location work is concentrated and mostly off-site. One Google Business Profile optimised properly, a genuine review generation process, citation cleanup, and enough locally relevant content and links to support the profile. It is a bounded scope, it produces results relatively quickly, and it does not need a large agency. Paying enterprise local SEO rates for one storefront is a straightforward overspend.

Multi-location work is an architecture problem before it is an optimisation problem. Location pages that are genuinely distinct rather than templated with the city name swapped, profile management at bulk without triggering quality flags, review workflows that work across branches with different managers, and governance so that individual locations do not undo central work. Add franchises and you also have a permissions and training problem, because local owners will edit their own profiles regardless of what head office prefers.

The failure mode in each direction is predictable. A single-location specialist scaled to forty locations produces forty manual workflows and misses the architecture entirely. A multi-location agency handed one storefront applies a process built for scale and bills for coordination that a single site does not need. Ask any shortlisted agency how many locations their typical client has - the distinction shows up fastest in genuinely distributed verticals such as taxi companies.

Google Business Profile is most of local SEO

For map pack visibility, the profile carries more weight than the website, which is counterintuitive enough that businesses routinely invest in the wrong one.

What actually influences map pack ranking

Relevance, distance and prominence, in Google's own framing. Distance you cannot change. Relevance is largely determined by category selection, services listed and profile completeness, and primary category choice is the single highest-leverage decision on the profile. Prominence comes from reviews, citations, links and general web presence. An agency that cannot explain how it approaches all three is optimising a subset.

The work that gets skipped

Category selection is frequently set once at profile creation and never revisited, despite Google adding and retiring categories regularly. Attributes and service listings are often left incomplete. Duplicate profiles from previous owners, old addresses or franchise mistakes sit unclaimed and split signals. Citation inconsistency accumulates quietly as a business changes phone number or suite number. None of this is difficult and all of it takes hours nobody has allocated, which is precisely what an agency should be doing.

Reviews as a system rather than a metric

Review count and velocity influence prominence, and response rate signals an active business. The agencies that produce results here build a process into the business: when reviews are requested, by whom, through what channel, and who responds within what timeframe. Agencies that report review count without having built that process are reporting on something they are not influencing.

What businesses get wrong when hiring a local SEO agency

1. Buying content and backlinks for a map pack problem

A proposal built around blog content and link building is a traditional SEO proposal with local keywords in it. Map pack visibility is driven mostly by profile signals, reviews and citations, and content will not move it. If your goal is appearing in the three-pack for nearby searches, the first ninety days should be profile, reviews and citation cleanup. An agency proposing a content calendar has not diagnosed the problem.

2. Ignoring duplicate and unclaimed profiles

Most established businesses have at least one duplicate profile somewhere: a previous address, an old phone number, a franchise created in error, or a listing generated automatically. Duplicates split signals and occasionally outrank the real profile. Finding and resolving them is unglamorous, often produces immediate improvement, and is skipped by agencies whose process starts at optimisation rather than audit.

3. Measuring local performance with website analytics

A large share of local SEO outcomes never touch your website. Someone finds the profile, sees the hours, taps the phone number or requests directions, and converts without a session ever being recorded. Judging local work by website traffic will systematically understate it. Profile actions, calls, direction requests and messages are the metrics, and they need a baseline recorded before work begins.

4. Treating reviews as the client's job

Agencies frequently report review counts while doing nothing to generate them, which is reporting on a metric they do not influence. Reviews respond to process: a defined request moment, a channel, a script, and a response workflow. Agree explicitly who owns that process. If it is you, price the agency accordingly. If it is the agency, ask what the process is and how it gets embedded in your operations.

How local SEO is changing in 2026

AI assistants have become a local discovery surface, and they behave differently from the map pack. Asked to recommend a business nearby, assistants draw on review sentiment, structured business data and third-party mentions rather than proximity alone. That has two consequences: review content matters more than review count, because sentiment is being read rather than tallied, and businesses with consistent structured data across the web are being surfaced ahead of closer competitors with messier footprints.

The second change is that zero-click local behaviour keeps growing. More users complete the interaction inside the profile itself, calling or getting directions without a website visit. This is not new but it continues to widen, which makes profile completeness a conversion factor rather than a ranking factor. Businesses treating the profile as a signpost to the website are optimising for a journey a shrinking share of customers takes.

Read your last twenty reviews as an AI assistant would. If they are positive but say nothing specific about what you actually do well, they help your count and not your recommendation odds.

Local businesses should expect an agency to raise AI-assisted local discovery unprompted. It is not exotic anymore, and it changes what review strategy is for.

Frequently asked questions

Most of the work happens off your website. Google Business Profile optimisation including category strategy and attributes, review generation and response processes, citation auditing and cleanup across directories, local link and mention building, and location page work if you have more than one site. Content and traditional backlinks play a supporting role. If a proposal is built primarily around blog content, it is a traditional SEO proposal with local keywords inserted, and it will not move map pack visibility.

Location count is the main driver. A single storefront is a bounded scope covering profile optimisation, review process and citation cleanup, and it does not require a large agency or a large budget. Multi-location work is architecture plus governance and costs substantially more per month while usually costing less per location. The mismatch to avoid is paying multi-location rates for one site, which is a common and straightforward overspend.

Faster than traditional SEO in most cases. Profile fixes, category corrections and duplicate resolution can show movement within two to six weeks because you are correcting signals rather than building authority. Review velocity takes two to three months to accumulate meaningfully. Citation cleanup propagates over one to three months depending on the aggregators involved. Competitive urban markets take longer throughout, mainly because everyone nearby is already doing the basics.

Local SEO optimises for proximity-based results, primarily the map pack, where the Google Business Profile carries more weight than the website. Regular SEO optimises for organic listings where the site is the ranking asset. The skills overlap but the priorities invert: local work is mostly profile, reviews and citations, while regular SEO is mostly content, technical health and links. An agency that treats them as the same discipline will underperform on whichever one is not their default.

On profile actions rather than website traffic. Calls, direction requests, messages, profile views and where available store visits, with a baseline recorded before work starts. A large share of local outcomes never reach your website at all, because customers convert inside the profile. Judging the work by sessions will systematically understate it and has caused plenty of effective local campaigns to be cancelled for looking flat in analytics.

Some can and many cannot, and the distinction is real. Multi-location work needs location page architecture that produces genuinely distinct pages rather than templates with the city swapped, bulk profile management that does not trigger quality flags, review workflows across branches with different managers, and governance so individual locations do not undo central work. Ask how many locations their typical client has. An agency whose answer is one or two will build forty manual workflows.

Yes, through prominence, and their role is broadening. Count, velocity and response rate all influence map pack visibility. What has changed is that AI assistants read review content rather than counting it, so specific reviews describing what you actually do well now influence whether you get recommended, not just where you rank. That makes review generation a process worth designing rather than a number worth reporting.
