16 best PR agencies in the world in 2026

We compared 16 PR agencies across consumer, B2B and corporate work on media relationships, measurement and senior access. Who suits which brief and budget.

Short answer: PR splits into three jobs that different agencies are built for. Consumer PR earns coverage that drives awareness and sales, and lives or dies on media relationships and story instinct. B2B and corporate PR builds credibility with a narrow, influential audience and is measured in reputation rather than reach. Crisis and issues work is a separate capability again, and the time to hire it is before you need it. The sixteen below are grouped by which of those three jobs they genuinely do best.

PR is the marketing discipline most often bought badly, and the reason is that its output is easy to see and hard to value. Coverage arrives, everyone reads it, and nobody can say with confidence what it did. That ambiguity lets weak agencies survive longer than they would in a performance channel, and it lets strong agencies get fired for outcomes they had no control over.

The agencies worth hiring are unusually clear about that ambiguity rather than hiding behind it. They will tell you what PR can and cannot move, they will agree what success looks like before the retainer starts, and they will decline briefs where the story is not there yet. The ones to avoid promise coverage volume, quote a monthly number of placements, and describe relationships with publications rather than journalists.

We evaluated PR agencies on media relationships that are current rather than historic, measurement discipline, sector depth, and senior involvement after the pitch. The list covers global networks and independents across the US, UK and Europe, because good PR is more geographically distributed than most rankings suggest. Nobody paid for a position here and there are no affiliate links on this page.

How we evaluated these PR agencies

Six criteria, weighted toward what predicts coverage quality rather than coverage volume.

Media relationships

Whether the agency has current, working relationships with named journalists in your sector, or a media list and a mail merge.

Measurement discipline

Whether success is defined before the retainer starts, and whether it is defined as something more meaningful than placement count.

Sector depth

Consumer, B2B, corporate, healthcare and technology PR require different networks and different instincts. Generalists underperform in regulated sectors.

Story judgement

Whether the agency can tell you your announcement is not a story. This is the most valuable and least common capability in the category.

Geographic reach

Genuine local media relationships in the markets you care about, rather than an office address and a partner network.

Crisis capability

Whether issues and crisis support exists in house, and how it is priced when you need it at short notice.

LocationGlobal (remote-first)
Founded2022

Full disclosure - this is us, and we are the specialist angle in a list of traditional PR firms. We are not a media-relations or crisis shop; we do the modern, search-facing side of PR - digital PR, brand mentions, and the entity signals that make your brand a trusted, quotable source for both Google and AI assistants. Coverage is only half the goal; the other half is being recognized as an authority the algorithms cite.

We work with SaaS, fintech, and B2B tech companies that care less about press clippings for their own sake and more about earned authority that drives organic visibility and AI citations. Across 70+ long-term partnerships, our brand-mention and entity work sits inside a wider SEO strategy, so coverage does not just disappear - it compounds into rankings and AI recommendations. For full-service or consumer PR, the firms below are excellent; for search-and-AI-facing digital PR, that is us.

PR agency vs digital PR agency

The two overlap enough to confuse buyers and differ enough that hiring the wrong one wastes a year.

Traditional PR optimises for the audience reading the publication. Success is coverage in outlets your customers, investors or regulators actually read, with the message intact. The work is relationship-led, the currency is trust with journalists, and the value compounds slowly through reputation rather than arriving as a spike.

Digital PR optimises for the link and the search visibility that follows. Success is coverage on high-authority domains that pass authority to your site, usually earned through data stories, surveys and reactive commentary designed to be picked up at volume. The work is campaign-led, the currency is a story angle that scales, and the value shows up in organic rankings rather than in brand perception.

Neither is a lesser version of the other, but the skills genuinely differ. A traditional PR team asked to build links will pitch beautiful stories to publications that do not link. A digital PR team asked to manage a corporate reputation issue will not have the relationships that matter when it counts. If you need both, the honest options are an agency with genuinely separate teams for each, or two vendors with a clear split of ownership. See our guide to digital PR agencies.

How PR agency retainers are priced

PR is almost always sold as a monthly retainer, and the retainer is buying time rather than output. Understanding that changes how you evaluate a proposal, because two agencies quoting the same fee can be offering very different amounts of senior attention.

A retainer is built from an assumed number of hours per month across a named team. What varies between proposals is the seniority mix inside those hours. A fee that looks competitive is often competitive because the hours are weighted toward junior account executives, with senior counsel appearing for the monthly meeting. That is not necessarily wrong, particularly for steady announcement-driven work, but you should know which you are buying.

Three things sit outside most retainers and are worth confirming before signing: media monitoring and measurement tools, which some agencies bill through at cost and others absorb; content production beyond press materials, including photography, video and design; and crisis support, which is frequently excluded and priced at a premium when you need it urgently. Ask for crisis rates in the original proposal, when you have leverage, rather than during an incident when you have none.

The other structural question is contract length. PR relationships genuinely need runway, because media relationships take months to convert and the first quarter is largely setup. Six to twelve months is a reasonable commitment. Anything longer without a defined review point is the agency managing its revenue risk rather than your outcome.

What most companies get wrong when hiring a PR agency

1. Buying coverage volume

Agencies that promise a number of placements per month can always deliver it, because there is always somewhere that will publish something. Twenty placements in outlets your buyers do not read is worth less than one piece in the publication they do. Define target outlets before the retainer starts, agree that list together, and measure against it. An agency that resists naming target publications is protecting itself from being measured.

2. Hiring PR to fix a product or story problem

PR amplifies a story that exists. It cannot manufacture one, and agencies that accept briefs where there is no story will spend your retainer sending announcements nobody wants. If your last three launches got no coverage, the problem may not be the agency. The most valuable thing a good PR partner does is tell you when an announcement is not newsworthy and what would make it so, which is a conversation worth having before signing.

3. Cutting the agency off from the business

PR teams generate coverage from access: to executives, to data, to customers, to what is genuinely happening inside the company. Agencies kept at arm's length and briefed through a single marketing contact produce generic output because they have nothing specific to work with. The best-performing relationships give the agency uncomfortable levels of access, and the agencies worth that access will ask for it in the pitch.

4. Negotiating crisis terms during a crisis

Crisis and issues support sits outside most retainers and gets priced at a premium when requested urgently, which is exactly when your negotiating position is weakest. Ask for crisis rates, response times and named senior availability in the original proposal. Even if you never use it, the answer tells you whether the capability is real or whether it will be subcontracted the first time you need it at midnight.

How PR is changing in 2026

The most practically useful change is that earned coverage now has a second life inside AI assistants. When someone asks an assistant to recommend companies in your category, the answer is assembled partly from what third-party publications have said about you. That makes trade coverage, review sites and comparison articles function as visibility infrastructure rather than only as reputation, and it gives PR a measurable role in a channel it was previously excluded from. Very few PR agencies are measuring this yet, which makes it a reasonable question to ask in a pitch.

The second change is that newsroom contraction has made relationships more valuable and volume outreach less effective than at any point in the last decade. Fewer journalists are covering more beats with less time, which means untargeted pitching now actively damages an agency's standing with the people it needs. Agencies that built genuine relationships are pulling further ahead of agencies that built media lists, and the gap shows up in whether they can place a difficult story rather than an easy one.

Ask a prospective PR agency to name three journalists they would pitch your next announcement to, and when they last spoke to each. The quality of that answer tells you more than the credentials deck.

If your category is one where buyers now shortlist through AI assistants before they ever search, earned coverage and AI visibility belong in the same conversation rather than in separate budgets. See our AI SEO agency page.

If you need paid, SEO or social alongside PR, see our list of digital marketing agencies in Los Angeles.

Frequently asked questions

PR is sold as a monthly retainer that buys a number of hours across a named team, so the fee tells you less than the seniority mix inside it. Two proposals at the same price can differ enormously in how much senior counsel you actually get versus junior execution. Ask for the team breakdown with hours and seniority. Also confirm what sits outside the retainer, because monitoring tools, content production beyond press materials, and crisis support are commonly excluded and priced separately.

Against a target outlet list agreed before the retainer starts, plus message pull-through and share of voice against named competitors. Placement volume is the weakest metric because it is trivially easy to inflate. Better measures include coverage in publications your buyers actually read, whether your intended message survived into the article, and whether journalists begin approaching you rather than the reverse. Increasingly worth adding: whether your brand appears in AI assistant answers, which earned coverage now feeds.

Traditional PR optimises for the audience reading the publication and is measured in reputation and message quality. Digital PR optimises for links and the search visibility that follows, usually through data stories and reactive commentary built to be picked up at volume. Both are legitimate and the skills differ. A traditional team asked to build links will pitch good stories to publications that do not link. A digital team asked to handle a reputation issue will lack the relationships that matter under pressure.

The first month is setup: messaging, media audit, target list, spokesperson preparation. Coverage typically starts in months two and three, and a fair judgement of the relationship needs six months because media relationships convert slowly and the strongest placements are rarely the fastest. Agencies promising significant coverage inside thirty days are usually planning to use outlets that publish anything. Commit for six to twelve months with a defined review point rather than an open-ended contract.

In regulated and technical sectors, yes. Healthcare, financial services, legal and deep technology all require an understanding of what can be said, to whom, and with what approvals, alongside relationships with journalists who cover a narrow beat. Generalists in those sectors spend the first six months learning and the retainer paying for it. In consumer categories the case is weaker, and a strong generalist with genuine story instinct often outperforms a category specialist.

Ask them to name three journalists they would pitch your next announcement to and when they last spoke to each. Ask what they would decline to pitch and why. Ask who staffs the account in month four and for how many hours. Ask for crisis rates and response times in writing. The first two questions test story judgement and relationships, which are the capabilities that matter. The second two test whether the relationship will survive contact with reality.

Yes, and this is newly true. AI assistants assemble recommendations partly from what third-party publications say about a company, which means trade coverage, review sites and comparison articles now feed a channel PR was previously excluded from. Earned coverage in credible sources improves the odds of being cited when someone asks an assistant to shortlist companies in your category. Few PR agencies measure this yet, so it is a useful differentiator to ask about rather than assume. See our brand mention services.
