Why enterprise AEO and GEO is different from "AI SEO"
Most AI SEO advice is written for a single site with one product. Enterprise brands have the opposite problem: dozens of products, several markets, a brand that AI engines already know, and a set of competitors the engines recommend instead. The question is not "how do we get mentioned" but "why are we cited for 12% of the prompts that matter and Competitor X for 41%, and which of the 400 things we could change would move that."
Three things change at enterprise scale.
Measurement has to be controlled. One prompt run in ChatGPT is not evidence. Answers vary by session, model version, location and phrasing. Enterprise measurement means a fixed prompt set per product line and market, run repeatedly on a schedule across every engine, with responses stored so a change can be attributed to a date. That is what PromptRush was built for.
Entities matter more than pages. AI engines assemble answers from what they believe about your brand, products, people and categories across the whole web, not from one optimised page. Enterprise AEO work is largely entity work: consistent product naming, structured data, third-party listings, expert-attributed content, brand mention placement and correcting what the engines currently get wrong.
Governance again. The content that AI engines cite most (comparison pages, "best for" pages, pricing explanations, documentation) is usually owned by three different teams. Someone has to own the claims register, the refresh cadence and the legal review, or the engines will keep citing a two-year-old third-party article instead of you.
What's included
- Baseline citation audit. Fixed prompt sets (typically 150 to 600 prompts per market) built from buyer questions, category terms, comparison queries and branded entities. Run across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. Output: your citation share versus named competitors, by engine, by product line, by market, with the sources each engine is relying on.
- Source and entity mapping. Which third-party domains, listicles, review sites, documentation and forum threads the engines cite when they recommend competitors, and where your brand is absent or described wrongly.
- Content engineering for AI answers. Comparison, alternative, "best for" and buying-guide pages built as governed templates with a claims register. Existing pages restructured for extractability: direct answers, defined terms, tables, consistent entity naming.
- Brand mention and citation placement. Getting the brand into the third-party sources the engines already trust, through our brand mention services and partner network. This is usually the fastest mover.
- Structured data and entity consistency. Organisation, product, offer, FAQ and author markup aligned across markets; Wikidata, Crunchbase, G2, Capterra and category directories corrected where the engines are pulling stale facts.
- Technical foundations. Crawlability for AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended), llms.txt where useful, rendering checks, and the same indexation discipline as classic SEO. Delivered through the enterprise technical SEO workstream when needed.
- Ongoing tracking and reporting. Weekly citation sampling, monthly executive report with citation share, share of voice, source changes and competitor movement, alongside (not blended with) the search metrics from enterprise SEO reporting.

How we measure AI visibility without overclaiming
We built PromptRush because the tools available in 2024 either sampled once and called it a trend, or produced a "visibility score" nobody could audit. Our method:
- Prompt sets are agreed with you and frozen for the measurement period. Changing prompts mid-programme is how agencies manufacture improvement.
- Every prompt runs on a schedule across every engine, from the target market's location where the engine supports it.
- Responses are stored in full. Citation, mention, position in the answer, sentiment and cited source are extracted per response.
- We report citation share (percentage of runs where your brand is cited), mention share, and source share (which domains the engine leaned on), each against named competitors.
- Movement is only reported after enough runs to separate signal from model noise. We tell you the sample size.
We do not report an "AI visibility score", we do not convert mentions into revenue without a measured referral path, and we do not run prompts that a real buyer would never type.
How an enterprise AEO programme works
- Weeks 1-3 - baseline. Prompt set design per product line and market, first full run across engines, source and entity mapping, competitor benchmark. You get the citation audit report and a prioritised backlog.
- Weeks 4-8 - fast movers. Entity corrections, structured data, brand mention placement in the sources engines already cite, and restructuring of the 10 to 20 existing pages with the highest extractability gap.
- Months 3-6 - content engineering. Comparison, alternative and "best for" templates built and governed. Documentation and help centre restructured where they are the cited source. Claims register and refresh cadence handed to the content owner.
- Month 6 onward - expand and defend. New markets and product lines added to the prompt set. Competitor movement monitored. Source share defended where competitors start placing. Quarterly re-baseline with the same prompts.
Proof
Client PromptRush numbers belong on the enterprise case studies page once they are cleared for publication. Until then, the honest proof is the method and our own visibility.
Our own visibility is the second proof point. Run "best enterprise SEO agency" or "which agencies offer enterprise AEO consulting" in ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode and look at who is cited. Search Console shows this site ranking at an average position of 8.8 across 227 conversational, AI-style enterprise queries in the last three months, against 23.3 for classic short queries. The method works on us before it works on you.
Enterprise AEO and GEO pricing
Programmes usually cost $8,000 to $25,000+ per month. Drivers are the number of product lines and markets in the prompt set, how many engines you need tracked, content production volume, and whether the brand mention and placement work is included. Standalone AEO is possible when SEO is already handled in-house or by another agency; we share the entity and technical findings either way.

Who this is for
Strong fit
- Brands where buyers research in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity before contacting sales: B2B software, fintech, professional services, healthcare, considered consumer purchases.
- Companies with named competitors that are currently cited instead of them.
- Marketing leaders being asked by the board or CEO "what is our AI strategy for search".
- Enterprises with documentation, comparison or pricing content spread across teams and no owner.
Not a strong fit
- Local businesses with no competitor set in AI answers.
- Companies expecting AI citations to replace search traffic in a quarter.
- Teams that cannot approve a claims register or a legal review for comparison content.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AEO and GEO?
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is usually used for getting cited in direct-answer systems: Google AI Overviews, featured snippets, voice assistants. Generative engine optimization (GEO) is used for LLM-based assistants: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude. In practice the work overlaps almost completely at enterprise scale, which is why we sell and measure them as one programme. The difference that matters is measurement: AI Overviews can be tracked partly through Search Console, LLM assistants cannot, which is why PromptRush exists.
What are the best enterprise AEO and GEO platform vendors?
The tools we see enterprises evaluate are PromptRush (ours), Profound, Peec AI, Otterly, Semrush AI Toolkit, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Conductor's AI tracking. The questions that separate them: how many engines, whether prompts run from the target market's location, whether full responses are stored, whether you can freeze a prompt set, and whether competitor citation share is reported at prompt level. We use PromptRush in every engagement and will show you the data model before you commit. We also compare the wider stack in best enterprise SEO tools.
Which firms offer enterprise AEO and GEO consulting?
A small number of specialist agencies, a handful of large SEO agencies that have added an AI line, and the platform vendors themselves. Our list of best AEO and GEO agencies covers them. When comparing, ask each firm to show their own citation share for their category and how they measured it.
Can you run AEO without changing our SEO agency?
Yes. We run standalone programmes alongside an incumbent SEO agency or an in-house team. We share entity and technical findings with them and coordinate on any page changes. The reporting stays separate so nobody argues about attribution.
How long until AI citations move?
Entity corrections and brand mention placement can change citations within four to eight weeks, because the engines refresh their view of well-known sources regularly. Content engineering takes three to six months to show in citation share. Model updates can move numbers in either direction overnight, which is why we report on repeated samples and not single runs.
How does this connect to our enterprise SEO programme?
They share technical foundations, entity data and most of the content templates. Run together, the SEO workstream handles crawl, indexation and search demand, and the AEO workstream handles prompt sets, citation sources and answer-shaped content. The enterprise SEO ROI calculator lets you model both lines separately for the same business case.
